Spanish Law Firm Argali Abogados Oversees Aegis-Ymedia Deal

Global media and communications businesses are continuing to up their game in terms of services and customer insight, as constant digital innovation becomes the industry’s new licence to operate. While traditional, non-digital media will continue to dominate overall media spending globally in the next few years, revenue growth will be in digital.

So the main industry players are on the hunt for M&A deals that will help them gain market share and boost their client base.

Aegis Media, a world leader in media and digital communications, has recently expanded its footprint in Spain with the integration of communications agency Ymedia. In September, Aegis Media Iberiathe multinational’s Spanish division—acquired 51 per cent of Ymedia, as well as its minority stake in digital independent agency Wink TTD. It plans to take full control of both Ymedia and Wink TTD in 2019.

The deal was overseen by Madrid-based Spanish law firm Argali Abogados.

Aegis Media is part of Japanese conglomerate Dentsu Inc and delivers its products and services through five global networks: Isobar, Posterscope, IProspect, Carat and Vizeum. Apart from its purchase of the Ymedia stake, it has been on an aggressive acquisition push over the last three months in countries ranging from Scotland to China.

As a cornerstone of its strategy to enhance its Spanish operations, Aegis Media will incorporate its local Vizeum business into Ymedia, including all its media clients’ investments. Vizeum is present in 39 countries and major clients include BMW, Pernod-Ricard and Panasonic.

Given Ymedia’s strong track record in Spain’s advertising industry, it is not surprising that Aegis Media was keen to get the firm on board and build on its success. But the multinational knows the importance of branding in any integration deal, and Ymedia will continue to operate independently, preserving its management team and business culture.

Founded in 2006, Ymedia is an award-winning full-service media agency offering brand content creation, research and strategy, as well as planning and buying off and online. Despite the downturn in Spain’s advertising market over the last five years due to the economic crisis, Ymedia has more than doubled its revenues during the period 2007-2012.

The company has been looking for a strategic partner for some time, and the agreement with Aegis Media will provide it with a dynamic network to grow its business in Spain as well as take advantage of possible overseas expansion opportunities.
